Well known and highly respected in the investment world, Tetsu has served as a Financial Advisor for more than 30 years and as Senior Vice President — Investments with Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner R Smith for more than 20 years.
As a volunteer, some of his philanthropic support includes: the California Pacific United Methodist Foundation, Family Services of Los Angeles (Suicide Prevention Center), Kanel Charitable Foundation, Japanese American National Museum, and the United Methodist Church Foundation. In each case, Tetsu always takes a leadership role.
Tetsu has volunteered with the Blind Childrens Center for more than 14 years. When hearing of his selection, Tetsu replied, "The Spirit of Light award is a great honor for me because I believe so much in the mission of the Blind Childrens Center. Blind Childrens Center Executive Director Midge Horton and Assistant Executive Director/Director of Finance Lena French are two of the nicest people I've ever met and they are a great asset dedicated to the benefit of the children."
As a consultant to the Center's Finance Advisory Committee, he reviews the investment managers' progress. These comprehensive reviews enable the Finance Advisory Committee and the Board of Directors to make responsible decisions regarding the Center's operating budget, the investment fund and ultimately the future of the organization. Larry McNeil, chairman of the committee, expressed his delight in hearing of Tetsu's award.
"Tetsu's balanced, common sense, and professional thinking have brought great insight to the management of the Blind Childrens Center finances. His generosity and devotion to the Center adds another dimension. His willingness to share his enthusiasm freely with others makes him a very special friend to the Center and to all of us who have had the privilege to work with him," Larry said.
Combining the qualities of professionalism, intelligence and enthusiasm with incredible warmth and caring, Tetsu generously supports the programs and services for our special children. In addition to his personal support, Tetsu has introduced the Center to his friends and other community grantors. Always, golf surfaces as an exceptional hobby. Tetsu has played many years in this tournament and was primarily responsible for the start of a new Blind Childrens Center golf event where he played 100 holes in one day to raise much needed funds for our Infant Program.
We are exceedingly grateful for Tetsu's personal dedication to the Blind Childrens Center and our children. Congratulations Tetsu! You truly are our Spirit of Light!
