The Spirit of Light Award

The Steve Garvey Spirit of Light Award was created in Steve Garvey’s honor to be given to the person who exemplifies Steve’s dedication and service to the Center and to the community.

STEVE GARVEY personifies the Spirit of Light. From his stellar baseball career to his remarkable charitable and community work, Steve inspires us all to reach for excellence.

Giving back is Steve’s trademark. He succeeded Frank Sinatra as National Campaign Chairman of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and in addition to his work at the Blind Childrens Center, Steve assists in a variety of other causes. He has been widely recognized for his commitment and generosity. Steve received Major League Baseball’s highest possible honor for humanitarian service, The Roberto Clemente Award.

We are grateful to Steve for so generously giving his time, energy and heart to the Blind Childrens Center and our very special children.
The Steve Garvey Spirit of Light Award is given annually to someone who, through their dedication and commitment to the Center, embodies the Spirit of Light qualities; who through his or her efforts has made life better for the children and families we serve.
