WHAT: Blind Childrens Center Annual Graduation Ceremony
WHEN: Friday, June 24, 2005
TIME: 9:30 A.M. (Sharp)

Blind and visually impaired children along with their sighted classmates (ages 2 1/2 to 4 1/2) will don tiny caps and gowns as they receive diplomas and certificates from the Mayor’s Office at the Blind Childrens Center’s Annual Graduation Ceremony.

Despite glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, cornea transplants, and countless surgeries, these youngsters have beaten the odds by completing the Center’s program, designed to teach young children who are blind and visually impaired the skills necessary to succeed in a sighted world.

Prior to the graduation ceremony the graduates, along with the Center’s other students, will dazzle guests with a musical program prepared in honor of this special day.

The Center’s little students and their families and Center professionals will be available for interviews. All of the children’s stories are compelling and inspiring.

MEDIA ADVISORY

THE FEEL OF EASTER

YOUNG BLIND CHILDREN EXPERIENCE THE FEEL OF EASTER THROUGH BEEPING TEXTURED EGGS

Blind infants, toddlers and preschoolers will experience the “feel” of Easter by using their sense of hearing and touch to hunt for textured Easter eggs that beep at the Blind Children Center's 17th Annual “Beeping Easter Egg Party” at 9:30 A.M. Blind Childrens Center, 4120 Marathon St., Los Angeles on Thursday, March 17, 2005.

The beeping eggs were developed to enable blind children to hunt for Easter eggs by using their other senses. The siblings of the Center's students will also search for the beeping eggs while wearing blindfolds.

After the hunt is complete, the children will exchange the eggs for an Easter basket filled with tasty treats. The Easter bunny will be hopping around to interact with the children. The youngsters will also have the chance to hug live bunnies, ducks and fluffy, little chicks scampering throughout the yard.

The Center's little students and their families and Center staff will be available for interviews. All of children's stories are compelling and inspiring.

Lawyer Resorts to Chilling Lengths to Support the Blind Childrens Center

KING GEORGE ISLAND, Antarctica As if running 26.2 continuous miles isn't extreme enough.

Lawrence Meyer of Glendale will be one of 190 globetrotting athletes from 13 countries who will travel an average of 8,000 miles each by land, air and sea to run a marathon or half marathon on what is known as the coldest, windiest, iciest and most remote continent on earth. He will be running to raise money for the Blind Childrens Center of Los Angeles.

Meyer will participate in the seventh Antarctica Marathon — a frigid-footed tour over gnarly hills, through icy streams and up and down the ominous Collins Glacier. Taking place on King George Island off the Antarctic Peninsula, the marathon's double-loop course also features a tour though Russian, Chilean, Uruguayan and Chinese scientific research base grounds. The marathon is scheduled for February 26, 2005.

Race day conditions typically feature bone-chilling cold, drifting snow and gale-force winds. Runners also encounter penguins, seals and the predatory brown skua during their icy trek. Known as the "Last Continent," Antarctica boasts a two-mile thick ice cap, spectacular scenery and challenging terrain.

The Blind Childrens Center is a non-profit family centered agency which serves children with visual impairments from birth to school-age. The programs and services help the children acquire skills and build their independence.

Founded by the Delta Gammas of Southern California in 1938, the Center is the only agency in the greater Los Angeles area that provides an extensive range of services to children who are blind and partially sighted and their entire family.

The Center utilizes its expertise and experience to serve families and professionals worldwide through support services, education and research and is considered a model educational institution.

Mr. Meyer is on the Board of Directors for the Blind Childrens Center.

For more information on the Blind Childrens Center or to interview Larry Meyer contact Laurie Headley (323) 664-2153 ext. 342.
