Cyclists Ride For The Blind Childrens Center

Cyclists ride for the Blind Childrens CenterLOS ANGELES, CA -
On Wednesday, March 4, 2009, three cyclists stopped by the Blind Childrens Center
on their journey from San Francisco to San Diego. Dylan Cannon, 26, of San
Francisco, along with friends Justin Miller, 26 of San Francisco and Alex Taborek,
27, of San Diego are riding their bikes to raise money for the Blind Childrens
Center. During their break from riding, the cyclists were able to meet some
of the children and enjoy a little playtime.
Dylan Cannon came up with the idea while cycling around Ireland in the Summer of 2008. “I wanted to raise money for a worthy cause. Something local, in California, and a charity that benefitted disabled children.” Finding himself with some free time, Dylan decided to take on this challenge. He set up a fundraising page on Firstgiving.com. Their initial goal was $500, asking friends and family to pledge $1.00 per day for their projected 10 day journey. To their surprise they have raised $2,359, almost 5 times their original goal. “We were shocked to see the response to our ride,” says Dylan, “it’s great that we were able to raise so much money in a little over a month.” The three friends plan to end their ride in San Diego on Saturday.

LOS ANGELES, CA - The 37th annual Holiday Party with Santa was held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at the Blind Childrens Center. The party was kicked off by Santa arriving in a police car with lights flashing and sirens blazing. Santa was greeted by the Center’s children, parents and staff who helped unload the vans full of toys donated by the officers and staff of the Rampart and Records & Identification Divisions of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The Holiday program included visits with Santa, entertainment by the classes and a special performance by Center alumna, Karen Arcos.
