A family-centered agency serving children with visual impairments

Thanks to all our parents, students and friends who participated in the 21st Annual Los Angeles Marathon. This was the Center's 10th year of participation as an official charity. We raised over $35,500 and the money is still coming in. A very special thanks to our top fund raisers: Mary Jane Acquino, Araceli Rivera and Jeremy Monge. We are grateful to our marathon committee with co-chairs Lawrence F. Meyer and Mark West (shown above right) and to our corporate sponsors including our premier sponsor EconOne.

Blind Childrens Center board member, Lawrence F. Meyer, ran the Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon in February 2006 after having run the Antarctica Marathon in 2005. This year his efforts raised $6,850 for the Center's children and families.
“The Mount Kilimanjaro Marathon was harder than the Antarctica Marathon. In Antarctica you couldn't run any faster because of the ice and snow. In Tanzania you could run pretty fast if you wanted but the heat and humidity were so bad that dehydration happened quickly. Out of the 46 marathons I've run, it was definitely the most grueling. My next one is the Great Wall of China which will be very difficult due to the terrain with its uneven cobblestones and stairs. Instead of having a 60th birthday party next year, I'm going to have a 7-continents party to celebrate my marathon participation on each continent. Each step I take is for the children.” — Larry Meyer
