International Forum: Lima, Peru 2007
Family Focused
Multi-disciplinary Model Program
Lilian Ulloa Infant, Program Specialist

I recently spoke at the International Special Education Forum in Lima, Peru. My presentation, Family Focused Multi-disciplinary Model Program, was very well attended with standing room only. Handouts on the Blind Childrens Center's programs and publications were provided. The audience was a mix of Spanish and English speakers.

My talk dealt with the family-focused coaching model that we employ in the Center's early intervention classroom (Infant Program). I stressed the importance of parent involvement, the benefits of the coaching model, and teamwork. My presentation was very well received. I answered questions at the end and was pursued afterwards with more. I was frequently stopped in the hallways, days after the presentation, and asked more questions about the Center's programs and publications.

I made many contacts and the Forum was great international exposure for the Center's program and teaching concepts. I enjoyed sharing ideas with people from Bolivia, Ecuador, Israel, Spain, France and the United Kingdom.

I thank the Atlas Family Foundation and the Blind Childrens Center for making this possible.
