Sarah E. Orth, MPA Chief Executive Officer

Sarah E. Orth, MPA, brings 25 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, management and fundraising to her role at the Blind Children’s Center. In her most recent position as an Executive Director with Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California, Sarah provided strategic leadership and management for two programs, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times® and the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House.

She holds a BA from Fordham University; and a Master’s in Public Administration from CA State University, Northridge. Active in the community, Sarah currently serves on the governing boards of the Center for Collective Wisdom (President) and the Patron Saints Foundation.

Fernanda Armenta-Schmitt, Ph.D. Director of Education & Family Services

Fernanda Armenta-Schmitt, Ph.D., is the Director of Education & Family Services at the Blind Children’s Center, as well as its Assistant Executive Director. Dr. Armenta-Schmitt, who has been employed at the Center for 31 years, supervises its multidisciplinary staff of teachers, assistants, specialists, social workers, consultants and mentors in an inclusive, family-focused educational environment.

Dr. Armenta-Schmitt has extensive experience in the arena of early intervention and serving families of young children with significant disabilities, and has authored several publications dedicated to serving families with diverse backgrounds and needs. As a licensed clinical psychologist, she has worked in multicultural community mental health settings, and has taught graduate-level courses at several universities throughout the Los Angeles area.
