The Infant Class serves infants who are blind or severely visually impaired from birth to age three. Many of them are multiply disabled. Parents are their children’s first teachers. The Infant Program builds upon this crucial relationship by teaching parents how to motivate and encourage their children in a number of ways: to initiate independent movement; to sit and crawl; to overcome their fear of sudden noises; and to be open to new experiences, such as new tactile textures (e.g., solid foods). What parents learn can be practiced at home. Infants and parents usually attend classes two to three times a week. Support and training for parents in-home is also provided.
