The Blind Children’s Center Embraces Delta Gamma’s Do Good Week with a Focus on Learning
As October approaches, the Blind Children’s Center (BCC) eagerly anticipates Delta Gamma’s eleventh annual Do Good Week, October 9 to 16. This week-long event, rooted in the Fraternity’s long-standing commitment to Service for Sight, holds special significance for BCC, which was founded by Delta Gamma sisters.
“For us at BCC, Do Good Week isn’t just an event; it is a celebration of the values that led to our agency’s founding,” said BCC Chief Executive Officer Sarah Orth. “Delta Gamma’s dedication to ‘doing good’ is the very reason BCC exists, and this week is a powerful reminder of the impact of service.”
Delta Gamma’s Do Good Week began as a way to extend the Fraternity’s values into the broader community, inspired by the same principles that guided the founding of BCC in 1938. The sisters sought to create a place where visually impaired children and their families could find the support and resources they needed to thrive. Today, the BCC remains true to that original vision, standing as a beacon of hope and education for those it serves.
This year’s Do Good Week is centered around the theme “Learn, Do, Advocate.” BCC is emphasizing the “learn” aspect with a series of educational presentations aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of key issues related to visual impairments and eye health. These pre-recorded sessions—covering topics such as how Service for Sight came to be, the importance of early detection and care for eye health and the history of BCC—will culminate in a live panel discussion, where attendees can engage with experts and gain deeper insights.
“We believe that education is the foundation of change,” continued Sarah. “By learning, doing and advocating, we can continue to build a brighter future for the children and families we serve.”
